San Antonio Military Health Systems and Universities Research Forum: Call for Abstracts

The San Antonio Military Health System (SAMHS) and Universities Research Forum (SURF) annual conference committee welcomes competitive submissions for concurrent sessions for the 2022 SURF conference. The conference is hosted on the campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio by UTSA, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, The San Antonio Military Health System and our regional partners: San Antonio Medical Foundation and BioMed SA.

The SURF Conference highlights the latest research and discoveries of trainees, faculty, staff, and students working to improve health outcomes and readiness.

  • Present and share innovations in research practice and policy
  • Connect with scholars and practitioners for future education
  • Develop research, policy, and practice collaborations
  • Earn continuing education credits

All researchers, students, faculty, and staff are welcome! Registration is free.

The committee invites proposals for the following abstract themes:

  • Dental Research
  • COVID-19 & Infectious Disease
  • Deployment Medicine
  • Human Performance
  • Medical Modeling & Simulation
  • Mental Health Initiatives
  • Nursing Research
  • Patient Safety
  • Precision Medicine
  • Public Health/Wellness
  • Regenerative Medicine
  • Trauma & ICU Medicine
  • Women’s Health Initiatives
  • Other

Abstracts are due no later than Friday, March 4, 2022, and require the following:

Abstract content:

  • Title is restricted to 225 characters.
    • The abstract must be no more than 500 words and must contain the following sections:
      • Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Discussion/Conclusion.
    • Abstracts without results or case reports will not be accepted.
    • Do not include pictures or tables in the abstract.
    • For DOD applicants
      • All Air Force Investigators must submit a Form 3039 and a copy of their abstract to the Clinical Research Division (CRD) at usaf.jbsa.59-mdw.mbx.wing-crd-publications-and-presentations@mail.mil
      • No later than 30 days before the event, final clearance is required to present your materials. Form 3039 is located at: http://static.e-publishing.af.mil/production/1/59mdw/form/59mdw3039/59mdw3039.pdf.
      • Army and Navy investigators are similarly required to clear their presentation materials through their respective Public Affairs offices prior to presentation at SURF 2022.
