Memorial Day Commemorative Event

A Memorial day commemorative event was held in partnership between the Military Health Institute (MHI) at UT Health San Antonio and University Hospital System, at the Robert B. Greene Campus flagpole.

Dr.  Don Jenkins Neurosurgery and Assistant Director of MHI, started off by mentioning the memorial service to a fallen San Antonio firefighter being held concurrently.  He talked about a legacy of service and sacrifice to our nation going all the way back to the Civil War, including his own recollection of growing up in a small town in Pennsylvania surrounded by countless WWII veterans.  He also reflected on the nature of today’s all-volunteer force, and how that has concentrated the sacrifices of war in a relatively small community.  Attendees solemnly reflected in appreciation of the sacrifices made by these men and women of the military.
